SQL Server

Assunto: I do need a good mentor!

I have been working with information technology for the last 25 years. During this time, I have worked as a programmer, initially with unix and C, then with Windows and VB, until I was presented to SQL Server.

To be honest, it was a wonderful experience.... finally I found a nice piece of software. The engine is brilliant. Since SQL Server 2000 I study the product, get certified and follow the leaders. Paul Randal and Kimberly Tripp were the first ones I really admire in this field.

Since that, many things happened, I got a lot of job in many companies, just to be very disappointed on how badly the product was used. How little my bosses know about the product, about all the nice features and possibilities. More then once I saw performance problems being addressed by more hardware instead a good tuning. To be honest, I thought about give up more then once during the last 12 years since I specialized in SQL Server.

Today, I am really lost. Now I am working on BI field. Thanks god, I am still working with SQL Server, but I still see the same, people just don´t use the product the right way. Very frustrating. I wonder, where are the good professionals? Where are the good companies, where will I use everything I study about SQL Server?

I really need a good piece of advice... From someone like you Paul.

    Thanks for your time.
